Needs and Solutions

The Training Needs and Proposed Solutions

Needs

The IMTN has identified three primary needs among missionary trainers, largely in the “Majority World” where most of today’s missionaries receive their call and train for service.

1) Ongoing training for missionary trainers leading to validating certification and/or degrees
2) Training and support for developing effective missionary training programs in churches, training institutions, and agencies
3) Appropriate resources for carrying out missionary training programs in churches, training institutions, and agencies

Solutions

The IMTN purposes to address these needs by facilitating the development of IMTN affiliated Resource Centers that can provide training for missionary trainers serving in their own part of the world and in their own languages of instruction. Resource Centers will facilitate courses at culturally appropriate levels of instruction leading to certification and degrees. This may be done in conjunction with or as a part of established seminaries or other educational institutions.

A fundamental course for all trainers will include a comprehensive overview of integral ministry training design, implementing the best, contextually appropriate practices. Training the trainers' programs will also include training in the use of training packages developed by and for regional dissemination. These packages are developed with the use of curricular missionary training profiles, use appropriate methodology, and support outcomes based educational objectives. The activity of IMTN Resource Centers will be supported by the IMTN web site featuring information and downloadable resources in multiple languages of instruction.
